Prison Law Network
The late Douglas Ewen KC (1967-2024), a champion for the rights of people in prison. The Prison Law Network was originally Douglas’s brainchild.
Promoting access to justice for people in prison
People in prison often struggle to access legal advice and representation for the issues that they encounter in prison e.g. access to medical care. People under the control or supervision of Corrections (e.g. under parole conditions) also struggle to access legal services.
Inspired by an idea by the late Douglas Ewen KC, the Wellington Howard League convenes the Prison Law Network: a clearinghouse for ‘prison law’ matters that connects:
Criminal lawyers, who may have clients with prison law issues; and
Public/civil lawyers, who may be in a position to assist with any public/civil claims.
